2 Tyght began in 1999 when Craig Watson & Dontronn Goode, two best friends born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, started writing and performing poetry. After receiving a lot of positive feedback, they began looking for an avenue to display and promote their poetic talents; however, they realized there wasn’t a clear avenue in Richmond for artists. With that in mind, in the Summer of 2002 they decided to start their own show. This show was called 2 Tyght Candlelight Poetry Night. The show eventually was cancelled by the Facilities Manager which served as 2 Tyght’s learning experience that the promotion business was easier said than done. After getting a clear picture of what it would take, 2 Tyght took on the challenge once again. They changed the name from 2 Tyght Candlelight Poetry Night to Lyric Ave and began promoting shows in May of 2003. 2 Tyght made many sacrifices as they passionately worked around the clock to ensure the success of the show. Soon afterwards, other local artists, saw how serious they were in promoting themselves, and began inquiring about being a part of the show. By December of 2003, Lyric Ave had a cast of 20 artists consisting of poets, vocalists, actors, dancers and comedians. Their audience base grew over the next 3 years from averaging 50 people to over 200 per show with venue changes to handle their rapid growth. Through the development of their artists and the steady growth of their show, 2 Tyght’s vision of providing a clear avenue for talented artists became even more clear. In 2007, 2 Tyght started taking the necessary steps to move their show to the next level, a nationally televised show. Through prayer and works, 2 Tyght continues to move as they are directed to reach their goals and aspirations as artists and businessmen.
